The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America are asking for true stories about living with  IBD and for selfies of the people who are living the life.

My husband and I were married New Years Eve 2009.  He being American and me being Canadian we were apart the first year of our marriage awaiting his visa.  We sent each other selfies every day, sometimes numerous times a day. During this time I was suffering very badly from an Ulcerative Colitis flare up so the majority of my pictures were of me in bed, on the couch or in the hospital.  It was a very rough time for me.  Not only was I away from my new husband, I was out of work, really sick and raising two kids.   Looking back at all these pictures it reminds me how fleeting and unpredictable my health can be and to take advantage of feeling good.  I’ve been in remission now since February and everyday I am thankful for that and I keep aware of the maintenance that needs to be done in order for me to continue feeling good.  This includes keeping my mind positive and stress-free as much as possible, keeping my self-talk in check and of course watching my diet.
